A space for community besides the Georges River
Collins and Turner’s design for the new Community Hub at Lighthorse Park builds upon Gallagher Studio’s master plan vision for the transformation of this historic park, beautifully situated along the banks of the Georges River in Liverpool.
The proposed building will house a diverse range of community-focused facilities, including a flexible meeting hall, cycle hub, café, public amenities, a multi-faith prayer space, and various supporting and ancillary spaces.
These elements are unified beneath a striking, free-form roof structure that also offers weather protection to a series of covered outdoor areas. These external spaces are designed to extend the functionality of the interior, providing opportunities for gatherings, events, festivals, outdoor dining, and a range of other informal community uses.
Envisioned as a ‘forest of colour’, the sculptural form of the building reflects and celebrates the vibrant cultural diversity of one of Sydney’s most dynamic multicultural communities. A tapestry-like use of colour on the building’s vertical structural columns and facade elements introduces a playful and abstract visual identity, while also offering privacy and screening for internal functions.
A development application was submitted in May 2025, with construction expected to commence in early 2026.
