A new landmark for the western city
Winter Sports World is set to assume a pre-eminent position among Australia’s international attractions, securing its status as an essential experience alongside landmarks like the Sydney Opera House and BridgeClimb for both domestic and global visitors.
A Transformational Landmark for Western Sydney
This significant development will be strategically constructed in Penrith, located just 12 kilometers from the new Western Sydney International Airport. Winter Sports World is designed to deliver an authentic, year-round snow experience. The complex will house Olympic-standard training facilities and a world-class resort precinct, all enclosed within a unique architectural structure inspired by a singular, compelling vision.
As the largest private tourism attraction project in Australia and the most substantial development in Western Sydney’s history, Winter Sports World represents a defining moment for the region. The project is positioned to shift perceptions, generate international attention, and set a new standard for future landmark developments.
Indoor snow resorts are a proven powerful tourism asset globally, with over 150 centers operating successfully across more than 35 countries in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. As Australia’s inaugural indoor snow resort, Winter Sports World is projected to deliver similar significant economic and tourism benefits, acting as a major international drawcard for Western Sydney.
With direct access to the new Western Sydney International Airport and proximity to Sydney’s CBD (60 minutes), Winter Sports World is uniquely positioned to access and grow the “snow-made” market across Singapore, Southeast Asia, and other key international regions.
Sustainable Design and World-Class Offerings
Winter Sports World is meticulously designed to merge the excitement of winter sports with premium hospitality. It is configured to appeal to the burgeoning local Western Sydney community, domestic and international visitors to Sydney, and those seeking reliable, consistent snow conditions.
The development’s core features include:
- A 300-meter advanced ski and snowboard run providing perfect, consistent snow conditions 365 days a year.
- Olympic-standard training zones dedicated to the preparation of elite athletes.
- An expansive snow play area for family and recreational use.
- A 4.5-star hotel with approximately 200 rooms, complete with conferencing facilities, dining options, mountain views, and a rooftop thermal bath-house utilizing heat recovered as a bi-product of the snow production process.
Operational Commitment to Carbon Neutrality
Setting a global precedent, Winter Sports World will be carbon-neutral in operation and all-electric. This is achieved through a ground-breaking building-integrated photovoltaic system covering the north-facing façade and roof areas. The photovoltaics are architecturally integrated within a sculptural façade screen, which is aesthetically inspired by the kinetic energy of a snowstorm.
The entire design ethos prioritizes sustainability and inclusivity.
Following an eight year process, development consent was received from the NSW Department of Planning in January 2024, with construction commencement anticipated during 2026.
